Spread the love

Yoghurt is a good source of vitamins and minerals such as riboflavin, phosphorus and calcium. It is also very rich in protein which aids in muscle building. We all love a cold cup of yoghurt and we would have to go to the supermarket or grocery store to fulfill our cravings.
How about making your own home-made yoghurt? It’s easy!

You would a starter yoghurt about a half cup, a half gallon of whole milk or any type of milk you want but whole milk would make the yoghurt thicker and creamier, and a thermos flask. If you don’t have a thermos flask, you can use a heavy pot with a lid.

Step 1
Start by heating the milk at about 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Heating the milk would thicken the yoghurt and it would also kill any microbes. This would also help you get rid of the bacteria you do not want.

Step 2
After heating the milk, cool it at about 112-115 degrees Fahrenheit. You could use an instant thermometer to check when it has cooled at 112-115 degrees Fahrenheit. Now our milk is ready for the good bacteria, that is, your starter mix(yogurt).

Step 3
Now add your starter yoghurt, I’ll prefer you use Greek yoghurt and pour one cup of warm milk in the starter yoghurt and stir it thoroughly. If you want a good starter, you can find a lactic acidosis forming bacteria.

Step 4
Stir the yoghurt starter with the rest of the milk. This would spread good bacteria in the yoghurt throughout the milk.

Step 5
Now pour the mixture into jars and incubate for 7 to 9 hours. This is where you would need the thermos flask or the heavy pot. Put the jars in the thermos flask or in the heavy pot and leave it to turn into your creamy yoghurt! After the set hours, you would have a creamy and thick yoghurt.

Step 6
Put the jars in the fridge and leave them to cool and set. Cool the yoghurt for a few hours and after cooling it, you would realize it has become much thicker and creamier. After cooling, your yoghurt is ready.

You can serve the yoghurt with a few toppings like dried nuts, raisins, strawberries or chocolate bars.
